WILL MY INSURANCE COVER THERAPY SERVICES?

As a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with CCPA, many insurance policies cover my services. Please check with your extended health provider to find out more. I do not offer direct billing at this time.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your appointment, I require at minimum 24 hours notice. Please note that clients will be charged a $100 fee, as agreed upon when booking, for cancellations within 24 hours or no-shows.

DO YOU OFFER VIRTUAL VISITS?

Yes, virtual sessions are available via phone or online video.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM THE FIRST SESSION?

When we first meet, I will review the forms you filled out online and all the information on the consent form to ensure you know what you are agreeing to and have a chance to ask questions. Next, we will discuss your reasons for starting therapy - be prepared to speak about this. Finally, you will share your hopes for therapy and together we will define your goals and discuss ways to achieve them.

DO I ATTEND SESSIONS WITH MY TEEN?

I ask that the parent(s) join the first session for a 15 minute intake. During this time we will discuss the significance and limitations of confidentiality and how to best create a safe space for the teen. In this time we will also address the concerns of both the parent(s) and teen and create a goal for therapy. After this initial intake, the teen will typically attend sessions alone.

HOW LONG AND HOW FREQUENT ARE SESSIONS?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length. I usually recommend meeting once a week, especially in the beginning stages of therapy, in order to establish a relationship and build momentum. That being said, you are free to determine the scheduling and frequency of sessions for what best meets your needs.

WHY DO PEOPLE GO TO THERAPY?

People go to therapy for all kinds of reasons, whether that means help with treating a specific mental health issue or something as simple as wanting to reach a specific goal in life. You don’t need to be struggling in order to benefit from seeing a therapist. Therapy can help to transition through a big life change, create room for self development, work through complicated relationships, develop effective coping strategies, identify purpose, solidify and protect boundaries, provide connection, and manage life stressors.
